In Yi Ren Qigong Level I, we activated and developed the central energy circulating system, and in Level II we continued to open the internal energy pathways in order to energize the internal organs, and to bridge the mind and the inner self. In Level III we build upon these foundations of internal cultivation, and learn how to integrate this internal energy with the larger energy field surrounding us. Our focus in Level III is on the extraordinary meridians, which connect with the internal organ meridians. Development of this complete meridian network promotes internal balance and harmony.

Practice of the extraordinary meridians exercises enhances internal organ communication and enhances communications between the internal energy system and the greater environment surrounding us. The extraordinary meridian exercises, which directly affect the nervous system/brain and the endocrine system, will help practitioners to integrate the body's entire energy-information system. With regular practice of the extraordinary meridian exercises, practitioners will notice that they receive valuable feedback and information about the various elements of their environment and living conditions, such as food, interactions with people, and geographic locations, as well as a general amplification of intuitive ability and a greater sense of connection to Nature and the energies of the seasons. This greater communication and refined perception enables better decision-making and a much greater awareness of the unique nature and character of much that may have passed beneath notice before. As the internal energy synchronizes with the environment, practitioners are more able to pick up on these cues from the surrounding energy field and to choose those elements, ideas, resources, that create the greatest synergy for them, enhancing their effectiveness and achievement, and providing a basis for continued growth.

The focus of this two-day seminar will be on the second set of fundamental Yi Ren Qigong practices. In Level I, we activated the internal power station to increase internal energy levels, and we developed the central energy circulating system. In this next sequence, we continue to open and develop the internal energy pathways in order to energize the internal organs.

This initiation of the energetic and informational functions of the organs is a critical aspect of the cultivation process. It is the precondition for understanding our nature or character within. The internal organ pathways form the bridge between the mind and the inner self. These Level II exercises play a very important role in developing emotional well-being, and help practitioners to gain internal realization about their self, raising subconscious material up to the conscious level as well as providing informational feedback about our state of mind, our interactions with others, our habitual responses, and our environment.

Cultivating Stillness to Understand
the Nature of the Mind and the Body

With Guan-Cheng Sun, Ph.D.

(Completion of Level 1B required)

The fundamental Yi Ren Qigong practice is the activation, cultivation, development, and application of “Qi”. In Yi Ren Qigong Level I, we activate the internal Qi system and cultivate the internal energy between complementary centers as well as develop the energy circulating system. In Level II we continue to open and develop the internal energy pathways in order to energize the internal organs, and to bridge the mind and the internal body. In Level III we develop the extraordinary energy pathways and form an internal energy network for promoting health, healing and the quality of lives.

In this Retreat, our focus will be on Cultivating Stillness. Stillness cultivation is an important step for understanding the nature of the mind and the body, and for learning and mastering the application of Qi. In this Retreat Dr. Sun will share his training methods on stillness cultivation. He will offer practices and meditations for cultivating stillness, helping participants to gain an experiential understanding at different levels of stillness. This stillness cultivation practice is the key step of integrating the body and the mind to work together on the same page. Through these practices, practitioners will naturally gain greater insight and perspective on the thoughts and images on their own mind screen, and their body’s signals, assisting practitioners in achieving greater self-awareness and greater synchronizing of mind and body.

In level I-B, our focus is to build a strong foundation for self-discovery, self-recognition, and internal realization in the advanced courses. In Level I-A, we opened the Life Gate and activated the internal power station to increase internal energy levels, and we developed the Central Energy Circulating System. In this next sequence of Level I-B, we open and activate the Marrow Gate and Brain Gate as well, to increase our awareness levels of the internal body for good management and self-mastery. A special internal energy connection practice will be introduced in this course for developing internal strength and balance. The Wisdom Gate opening and activating exercise, in combination with the Complementary Centers Integrating Practice, will not only enhance internal balance and harmony but also increase the internal energy levels. These practices are important and necessary for preparing the body to experience the internal energy flow, and for preparing the mind to understand the information of our internal bodies in the course of level II.

YiRen™ Qigong Level One A

Qigong, like acupuncture, is based on the "Qi," or internal energy patterns in the body.” Qi” in Chinese means the life force or vital energy, and "gong" means the results or achievement of work or cultivation. In Qigong we cultivate this energy, or “Qi,” to prevent and heal illnesses, improve the quality of our lives and increase longevity. This practice allows the body's systems to work with higher efficiency and fosters the expression of healthy genetic information.
We offer the entire content of an eight-week level one course in this weekend seminar: a series of stationary and subtle movement meditations for enhancing and regulating energy circulation in the body and understanding the body's functions at the energetic and informational levels. We focus on activating and feeling the Qi, so that we are practicing with the actual sensations and experience of the Qi that exists within us as well as around us.

In this level one seminar, our focus will be on exercises specifically designed to:

  • Activate and feel the Qi, restoring harmony and vitality to the body.
  • Strengthen weak points and remove blockages in the body's energy pathways and improve circulation of necessary energy to areas of pain and injury.
  • Turn on the body's inherent programs for self-healing.
  • Ground the energy so that the mind becomes more peaceful, allowing the body to relax more deeply and to function in its most healthful capacities.
  • Improve the quality and depth of sleep, to help us feel more rested and energized.
  • Develop greater and more consistent energy levels, building up the central energy circulating system in order to strengthen the immunity and enhance good health.
  • Help participants gain an experiential understanding and awareness of internal energy flow around the acupuncture meridians in the body.

In addition, participants learn a form of meditation that goes deep down into the layers of the body and the body's consciousness, enabling a deeper understanding of the body's intelligence and communications.

Applying Five-Element Theory
to Qigong Practice

With Guan-Cheng Sun, Ph.D.

(Completion of Level 2 required)

Saturday October 18, 2008

Five-element theory is one of the major principles in qigong practice and traditional Chinese medicine. It helps practitioners understand how natural changes within the body and outside environment affect people's health and quality of lives. From a qigong perspective, five-element theory is important for providing qi-treatment protocols — Specific Qigong Therapy for treating specific health conditions. In this seminar, our focus will be on the application of the five-element theory and internal organ system with different combinations of Yi Ren Qigong Level I and II methods for self-healing, self-care and advanced practice.

The Way of the Virtues
With Guan-Cheng Sun, Ph.D.

Saturday, December 8, 2007

Rosary Heights Center
23120 Woodway Park Rd., Edmonds, WA. 98020
* Click here for map.

Our focus in this Yi Ren Qigong practitioner retreat will be on internal virtues cultivation and its relationship to consciousness. Our Qigong practice brings the Qi inward, into the deeper layers of the body and the body's consciousness; the Qi is the medium that brings the mind to the consciousness of the body and brings the consciousness of the body to the mind, allowing the mind and the consciousness of the body to communicate with each other. As the body holds up a mirror to the mind, reflecting whatever thoughts and emotions are around us and within us, our practice helps us to recognize and become aware of these thoughts and emotions.

Our virtues retreat series provides methods and tools for experiencing and recognizing the nature and the qualities of internal energies and their relationship to consciousness, which is the foundation of spiritual development in traditional teaching. In the internal cultivation tradition the establishment of virtue is understood to be not an ethereal or abstract, ideal state, but an embodied achievement, one which reflects the deep inner nature of the internal organs. And this embodiment of virtues—love, justice, appropriateness, wisdom, and loyalty—by the organs, nourishes and accelerates our spiritual development.

The practices in our virtues retreat series provide a unique opportunity to understand the essence of the ancient book, Dao De Jing (Tao Te Jing) — “The Way of Virtues” from the point of view of the internal cultivation tradition. In this Retreat we will offer practices and meditations based upon teaching in the Dao De Jing, helping us to understand this ancient and profound text in a new way—as a guide book for fuller growth and development through internal virtues cultivation.

In this Retreat, our focus will be on the functions of the reproductive organs and the lymphatic system at the emotional and consciousness levels. Our energetic practice can help the practitioner to gain experiential understanding of patterns carried by the internal organs and conditioned passive reactive habitual responses, such as attachment, defensive and protective feelings, etc. Once practitioners become aware of patterns carried by their internal organs, they can monitor their behavior and relate their thoughts and actions to the carried memories and emotions, thereby releasing or transforming them. This process is an important part of internal cultivation, in terms of developing character and nourishing the spirit. Once practitioners are able to overcome conditioned emotional layers, and pass through any passive reactive habits, they can experience the deeper levels of their intrinsic nature: inner virtues. For example, when practitioners are able to overcome passive and conditioned defensive and protective reactions, they will experience the sense of security and safety; when practitioners are able to overcome unhealthy attachments, they will experience the sense of internal freedom, vitality and happiness. In this Retreat we will offer specific reproductive organs and lymphatic system related Qigong practices and meditations to strengthen the functions of the reproductive organs and the lymphatic system, and to increase the awareness levels for healing reproductive and lymphatic system related illnesses, as well as to promote the expression of the virtues of the reproductive organs and the lymphatic system.

Virtues-Internal Organs Series 4 of 6
Internal Virtues of
Pancreas and Stomach
With Guan-Cheng Sun, Ph.D.

(Completion of Level 2 required)

Saturday, April 21, 2007

Bastyr University, Hemlock Room #1062
14500 Juanita Dr. NE, Kenmore, WA. 98011

At the deeper levels of Yi Ren Qigong practice, our focus will be on the relationship of spirituality to our internal cultivation process. Our Qigong practice brings the Qi inward, to the deeper layers of the body and the body's consciousness. The Qi is the medium that brings the mind to the consciousness of the body, and brings the consciousness of the body to the mind, allowing the mind and body to communicate with each other.

Yi Ren Qigong Level I, II, and III courses provide methods and tools for activating, energizing and clarifying the energy channels within our body. The internal energy channels form the bridge between the mind and the internal organs. According to the ancient knowledge of internal cultivation, the individual's behavior and character are related to the state of the internal organs. For example, the pancreas is responsible for patience, worry, shame, and guilt at the emotional level, as well as for boundaries, harmony, courtesy, and appropriateness at the consciousness level.

In this Retreat, our focus will be on the functions of the pancreas and stomach at the emotional and consciousness levels. Our energetic practice can help the practitioner to gain experiential understanding about unhealthy memories of internal organs, such as worry, and guilt, for example. Once practitioners recognize the unhealthy memories of their internal organs, they can be aware of their behavior and how to relate to the emotions, thereby releasing or transforming them. This process is the important part of internal cultivation for developing character, and for nourishing the spirit. Once practitioners are able to overcome their unhealthy emotional layers and pass through the passive reactive habits, they can experience the deeper levels of their intrinsic nature: inner virtues. For example, when practitioners are able to overcome their habitual worry or guilt pattern, they can feel greater peace, patience, and internal harmony as well as are able to keep appropriate boundaries with others.

In this Retreat, we will offer specific pancreas and stomach related Qigong practices and meditations, to strengthen the functions of the pancreas and the stomach, and to increase the awareness levels for healing the pancreas and stomach related illnesses, as well as promoting the expression of the virtues of the pancreas and the stomach.

Yi Ren Qigong Level 3

For example, the heart is responsible for joy, warmth, excitement, thriving at the emotional level, as well as for benevolence, universal love, kindness, respect, and generosity at the consciousness level.

In this Retreat, our focus will be on the functions of the heart and small intestine at the emotional and consciousness levels. Our energetic practice can help the practitioner to gain experiential understanding about unhealthy memories of internal organs, such as emotional shock and jealousy, for example. For example, when practitioners are able to overcome their emotional shock or jealousy, they can feel more cheerful and satisfied in their work and life.

In this Retreat, we will offer specific heart and small intestine related Qigong practices and meditations, to strengthen the functions of the heart and small intestine, and to increase the awareness levels for healing the heart and small intestine related illnesses, as well as promoting the expression of the virtues of the heart and the small intestine.

Yi Ren Qigong Level 2
With Guan-Cheng Sun, Ph.D.

(Completion of Level 1-B required)

Saturday & Sunday, March 10 & 11, 2007

Bastyr University, Willow Room #146
14500 Juanita Dr. NE, Kenmore, WA 98011

At the deeper levels of Yi Ren Qigong practice, our focus will be on the relationship of spirituality to our internal cultivation process. Our Qigong practice brings the Qi inward, to the deeper layers of the body and the body's consciousness. The Qi is the medium that brings the mind to the consciousness of the body and brings the consciousness of the body to the mind, allowing the mind and body to communicate with each other.

Yi Ren Qigong Level 1-A

Bastyr University, Hemlock Room #1062
